A Day In The Life Of Moses.

AN ORDINARY DAY WITH SHEEP AND GOATS
Whew, it’s been a long day and I am really tired; I should rest a little before walking any further, he thought to himself. I still have a long way to go before reaching the far side of this field; especially with all these little grazers with me. Stopping now would only prolong my day even more and I need to finish before the darkness settles in. Leisure really doesn’t come easy with this type of job; if I don’t remain focused and alert something is liable to happen.
It’s been many years since I first began to do this work and I have to say that I’ve enjoyed it. My 80th birthday was just a couple of weeks ago and l’m reminded that my days are advancing ever so quickly. Yet praise be to God that my strength has not left me. But if only I could sleep a little better at night. These nightmares I’ve been having just continue to reoccur; his face is continually on my mind. Oh how I regret that day. Why did I let my temper get out of control? I could have handled that situation differently. Why did I result to such anger and violence? I can’t believe that these hands I use to care for God’s creation have actually killed a man. I could never go back there again.
My reaction that day changed the course of my life forever and I’ve been running ever since. To think that I was practically a prince of a people and nation and just lost it all over an impulsion. Now I’m a sheep herder and a fugitive. Oh Lord, please forgive me, I shouldn’t complain; you’ve been gracious to me. I have Zipporah and Gershom by my side and my father in law has shown me nothing but love. I have a good life now. It’s just that even with all I have, I feel as if something is missing. A different purpose perhaps. My spirit has been stirring for quite some time now and I pray to you Lord that you would grant me an answer to these questions. I’m I meant just to be an ordinary shepherd or is there more?
As he continued to pray and walk near the mountain he noticed an iridescent light up ahead. His curiosity got hold of him and so he continued to gaze at the direction of this unusual shimmer. It wasn’t a reflection of any sort or anything familiar he could tell. What is that?, he thought as he shook his head. He looked again and notice that it was a flame inside of a bush but there was no smell of smoke or burning of any kind. How is that possible? I am going in for a closer look, he said softly to himself. As he approached, he heard his name called out twice from inside the bush. Moses, Moses! And he answered, “Here I am”!
As I pondered over this scene I couldn’t help but think that Moses instinctively knew who called him. A response like that could only come by knowing your God! The sheep know the voice of the shepherd. Oh, how fitting, don’t you think?
What a day for Moses. He rises up in the morning a usual, eats his breakfast, with and starts his work day. I don’t think Moses thought, ” Okay this is the day I will meet God and my days of herding flock will be over!” Maybe he should have, and maybe we all should think that way. Expecting an encounter with God to show up in our lives and reveal his purpose should be an attitude we carry daily. For Moses, I believe that thought was the furthest thing from his mind. After 40 years of doing the same thing over and over again life becomes pretty much routine. You don’t wait for anything new to happen because time has robbed you of that confidence. You are just content with making it through the work day. Sad thought isn’t.
Well, I’ve been there and I know some of you have as well. But let me ask you a question. Do you know how Exodus chapter 3 begins? It begins with two words, ONE DAY (NLT). You see, Moses’ ordinary day was divinely orchestrated by God so that Moses would walk to the farthest side of the wilderness, which was called Horeb, the mountain of God. Although the Bible records this visit only once, I don’t believe this was Moses’ first time there. Let me explain. Shepherds often needed to find a place to go with their flock to escape the heat. In order to do so they would travel to the furthest place in the wilderness because it provided an oasis for their thirst, nourishment, and an area to rest. On this particular day God had plan in motion to interrupt Moses’ day and change his life forever. This would be the place where Moses would encounter living water to quench his spiritual thirst and divine rest for his heart.
Let me ask you a question. Where are you going today?
You may be traveling to the same place over and over again with no change to your life but don’t dismiss the idea that God can still show up, call you by your name, and connect you with your life’s purpose. God is listening to you right now and He is concern with how you feel; no matter how strong those emotions might be, It’s okay. Give him your anger, disappointment, and tears. He can take it. Just know that He is already working out a plan to help you even before you utter your first word.
Remember, in this encounter God tells Moses that he has heard the cries of his people and the time to rescue them as come. My friends, know this today! God hears your cries as well. He will not leave you to wonder aimlessly through life. His plan for you is to prosper and propel you to greater heights than you ever thought possible. The Lord has a specific timeframe for this to occur and rest assure that his divine clock will intersect with your usual routine. Stay the course, don’t hurry the process, because impulsiveness can alter the direction of your life, and do not think for a second that what you are doing right now has no value.
Moses did not know it at the time but his 40 years of tending sheep and goats would be preparation for his calling to lead God’s people into a better place. Your life’s work will reflect the same result if you trust in Him. God will use all the years of your hard work as preparation for your destiny. Allow me to conclude this thought with my usual statement and encouragement. Do what is asked of you. Be ready, and watchful because suddenly an iridescent light will appear up ahead, stopping you right on your tracks, and will call out your name. That voice will be the Lord’s, doing what He does best, getting your attention wherever you are. When that happens, respond to the voice of God like Moses did and say, “Here I am!” because a divine interruption awaits you.

Creative way of making the scriptures personal. Encouraging word for those going through hard times and not understanding what God is doing. 2 thumbs up for an anointed, applicable Bible teaching.
